Jurassic World Live Tour, an exhilarating and unpredictable live, family entertainment experience that brings the wonder and thrills of Jurassic World to generations of fans returns to Amway Center from January 13 – 16. I’m honored to attend as a Feld Ambassador*.
With unrivaled arena production quality, Jurassic World comes to life against a backdrop of captivating scenery where dinosaurs from the iconic franchise, including fan-favorite
Velociraptor Blue and a Tyrannosaurus rex more than 40 feet in length, take center stage. The production features more than 24 film-accurate, life-sized dinosaurs, with scale, speed and ferocity, operated by animatronics and performers.

Though not a “real” Jurassic World animatronics dinosaur operator,
I was allowed to play one, if only for a few minutes.

Jurassic World’s unmistakable score combined with projection and practical scenery transforms the arena into the dense jungles of Isla Nublar, where real Gyrospheres roll through the valley and scientists work to unravel a corrupt plan and save anew dinosaur from a terrible fate. With pulse-pounding stunts and an original, authentic storyline, this show is guaranteed to make memories that will last another 65 million years.

Host Your Own “Cans Over Candy” Food Drive

Video

Families in your community, in my community, need help. And kids can do a LOT toward meeting that need by asking for “Cans Over Candy” this Halloween to stock food pantries, like Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida or ones in your state.

My son Daniel, now 14, has never been a big candy eater. (Not even chocolate! Now THAT’s scary!) For most of his young life, Halloween was a time to get dressed up and hang out with his friends. He wasn’t all that excited about his “haul,” but in the experience of being together, and laughing, and just having a good time.

Having seen me participate in various charitable events at and in support of Second Harvest Food Bank, Daniel became interested in helping, too. At a family-friendly sorting event with y husband, he got his first look at what a food pantry does, and who it serves.

At the intersection of “what he enjoys” and “how he can help,” Daniel decided to start collecting Cans Over Candy.

In his first year, 2019, he handed out flyers a few days before Halloween to let everyone know what he was doing, so they could prepare. At “Trick or Treat” time, he went out with his friends (while wearing a Second Harvest Food Bank shirt) to collect for his food drive. (Click HERE to see his video.) Our generous neighbors came through with an overflowing cart of canned goods, boxed foods, and assorted bags of non-perishables that we delivered to Second Harvest Food Bank the following day: over 130 items (surpassing his goal of 120!).

Enter: Global Pandemic

Food Insecurity existed before Covid-19, but between lock downs, loss of jobs, families being directly impacted by loss of life, or illness, the need for communities to step up and reach out was increased. As Central Floridians, we saw a lot of hospitality industry friends directly impacted. The need was greater, so the goal was greater to collect items to help fill in the gap for people who might otherwise do without.

For 2020, Daniel upped his costume game and wore a Star Trek uniform and mask to collect what turned out to be DOUBLE what he collected previously. (Do we have amazing neighbors, or what?!)

Support your community by hosting your own Cans Over Candy food drive.

Feel free to download the flyer below, to support Second Harvest Food Bank.

(Click HERE for a PDF with no logo, so you can insert the name of the Food Bank in your area.)

Get ready to go Wild… for FREE May 6–11! Wild Florida is celebrating their 3rd annual Gator Week with free admission for everyone to its Gator Park plus exciting events lined up for each day.

To many, alligators are viewed as fierce carnivores on the hunt, but that’s not the case. Like many misunderstood creatures, myths develop based on a lack of knowledge and focus too much on fear. Because of this, Wild Florida decided to dedicate an entire week to educating guests, debunking common myths and developing a more positive attitude towards these reptiles.

Jordan Munns, co-owner and co-founder of Wild Florida, says, “The most common emotional response to alligators is fear and that can lead to negative outcomes for wild predators. We hope to convert that fear to a healthy respect and appreciation for these incredible animals. ”

Wild Florida’s mission has always been to provide an unforgettable Everglades experience that promotes a connection with animals while inspiring education and conservation.

GATOR WEEK SCHEDULE:

May 6: Alligators and crocodiles rank in the top two for having the strongest jaws in the animal kingdom. During day one of Gator Week, this power will be displayed during a live demonstration as alligators and crocodiles smash fruits and vegetables with their jaws. Later in the day, there will also be a gator water polo game in the Gator Pond.

May 7: Just like cats and dogs, alligators make very distinct sounds that everyone can master. At 12:00 p.m. inside Wild Florida’s Exotic Animal Pavilion, Wild Florida will host a Gator Call Competition. Later on, the Wild Florida team will host their first “Clock-the-Croc” demonstration, where, using a speed timer, the team will record the speed of one of their crocodiles on land and in the water.

May 8: During day three of Gator Week at Wild Florida’s Gator Feeding Show Pavilion, the Wild Florida team will measure the bite force of a snapping turtle, freshwater crocodile, alligator, and caiman. After the bite force test, stop by the Chomp House Grill as the Wild Florida team tries to break the world record for longest gator po’ boy!

May 9: Wild Florida’s popular Gator Jumpathon returns! At 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Wild Florida’s 3rd Annual Gator Jumpathon takes place inside their Gator Pond, where you can witness the true power of these animals and see just how high they can jump to catch their prey. Then, guests will have an opportunity to jump like a gator themselves and participate in the first-ever “Gator Jump Competition.” There will also be bounce houses available for kids to enjoy throughout the day and educational seminars from experts on alligator hatching, mating and farming.

May 10: Everyone might be used to seeing alligators during the day, but what about at night? Wild Florida will stay open after dark and do a special gator feeding show with their biggest alligator, Crusher. They will also host a Wild Paint Night Out, where Wild Florida’s albino alligators Snowflake and Blizzard will be the stars of the show. Guests will get to paint these impressive animals and see them up close while enjoying a delicious buffet dinner. Wild Florida will also be offering discounted night airboat tours to give guests a unique experience of seeing how wild the swamp is in the moonlight.

May 11: Capping off another year of Gator Week, there will be a Gator Week Corn Hole and Gator Slushy Drinking Competition where the winner from each competition will win a special prize.

Be sure to follow Wild Florida on social media for updates, fun polls, educational tidbits, myth-busting stories, and giveaways throughout the week. Also, check out www.GatorWeek.com for a full schedule of activities.

Admission to Wild Florida’s Gator Park is only $10 for adults; Florida residents receive a 50 percent discount year-round. Admission to the Park is free for any guest who purchases a Wild Florida airboat tour or animal encounter. Learn more about Wild Florida’s offerings at WildFL.com .

Wild Florida Airboats and Gator Park, which opened on Lake Cypress in Kenansville in 2010, focuses on educating individuals about Central Florida’s natural resources. The Wild Florida team is dedicated to protecting, conserving, and enhancing Florida’s diverse ecosystem to ensure that future generations can enjoy the wonders of wild, native Florida.

Monster Jam This Saturday in Orlando

Monster Jam roars into Camping World Stadium in Orlando this Saturday, January 19, 2019. The 2019 season of Monster Jam®, the unexpected, unscripted, and unforgettable family-friendly motor sport, will bring a new level of high-flying, four-wheel excitement to the entire family with racing, two-wheel skills and freestyle competitions.

When I first started going to Monster Jam events as an invited Feld Ambassador*, I was initially curious. I’m not exactly the rough-and-tumble type. That said, I was certain my son and husband would like it, so I was happy to go and we had a great time!

Fast forward to today. Watching the excitement of the Monster Jam competition and hanging out for every minute of the Party in the Pits is a highlight of my year. It’s really a load of fun, and seeing the looks on kids (and adults!) faces is priceless.

First stop: Party in the Pits. No other sport has such a one-on-one “festival” before every competition. Fancy a photo with a fun character (like Curly the Cone from Dairy Queen pictured above!)? Check. Want your favorite driver’s autograph and a picture? Check. Want to watch motorcycles and their daredevil drivers put on a high-flying show? Check. Enjoy looking at cool products (like a row of the latest fully-loaded 2019 Fords!)? Check! Plus there there’s an opportunity for kids to buy a Lowes Build-a-Truck kit and hammer it up right there!

On Saturday, expect more than 12 trucks and drivers vying to be the Orlando champion, including:

Grave Digger driven by Adam Anderson; El Toro Loco driven by Scott Buetow; Great Clips Mohawk Warrior driven by Bryce Kenny; Brodozer driven by Colt Stephens; Max D and Monster Mutt Dalmatian driven by husband-wife competitive duo Neil Elliott and Candice Jolly; Earthshaker driven by Steven Thompson; Time Flys and Wildflower driven by father-daughter competitors Kelvin and Rosalee Ramer; Xtermigator driven by JR McNeal; Zombie Ice driven by Paul Strong; Saigon Shaker driven by Ryan Disharoon and more.

(Trucks/drivers subject to change without notice.)

WHEN: Saturday, January 19, 2019

Monster Jam Rolls Into Orlando

Monster Jam rolls into Orlando at Camping World Stadium on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Gates open at 5 p.m., opening ceremonies are at 6:30 p.m., and racing starts at 7 p.m. Fans can catch some of the show’s BIGGEST stars around Orlando THIS Thursday.

I was invited to attend the Tampa show* as a Feld Ambassador in anticipation of the Orlando show. Though I didn’t personally attend (due to circumstances beyond my control), my husband, 10-year-old son and a friend of ours were there and sent me photos and video play-by-plays. It’s exciting even when enjoying it vicariously, lol.

They absolutely loved the pre-event Party in the Pits where they got autographs and photos and had loads of fun.

They’re going to try and see them again this week.

Seven of the giant monster trucks from Monster Jam®, will be on display in Orlando this Thursday, January 18. For fans, it’s a chance to see and take pictures with the enormous trucks before these beasts roar into Camping World Stadium on Saturday, January 20. Best part, it’s all free to the public.

Approximately 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, Monster Jam trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds. Built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, Monster Jam trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Monster Jam trucks can fly up to 125 to 130 feet (a distance greater than 14 cars side by side) and up to 35 feet in the air.

Note: They FLIP sometimes, too! My family sent me video of one of the night’s biggest end-over-ends. WOW. It never fails to make the heart race!
