Freezin’ For a Reason 2017

It’s time for the Polar Plunge – a thrilling run into the frigid winter waters to raise money for Special Olympics Florida!

I’m excited to once again be Freezin’ for a Reason.

Did you know that over 38,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities receive health exams and compete in year-round sports competitions at no cost to them or their families? By raising funds, even more athletes will get to experience the joy of sports through the programs of Special Olympics Florida.

You can help! Please click HERE  to make a quick, secure online donation for my Plunge. You can even post a note on my page to cheer me on!

If you prefer to give by check, please mail your donation to the address below and be sure to add a note with my name and “Polar Plunge” so it gets credited to my page. Some companies even match charitable donations. Consider asking your HR department about it.

Freezin’ For A Reason 2016

Polar Plunge Freezin' For A Reason at Aquatica by SeaWorld Orlando for Special Olympics FloridaSaturday February 13, the Special Olympics Florida’s Polar Plunge® will be held atSpecial Olympics Florida Aquatica. During this statewide fundraiser, individuals and teams, alongside Special Olympics athletes raise money for the privilege of Plunging into the chilled down wave pool.

Aquatica is usually warm and tropical (as we all know!), but once each year they chill down the wave pool so plungers can experience the “thrill of the chill” all while supporting a great cause.

I remember my first Polar Plunge. It was exciting to be part of such a huge joint adventure, with people from all over in crazy costumes, all “fired up” to get really “chilled down!” Each time it’s a heck of a lot of fun, but more importantly it’s an opportunity to make a difference. Every dollar raised helps the athletes of Special Olympics Florida by transforming their lives through the joy of sports.

It’s loads of fun watching the firemen! The Florida Professional Firefighters are Presenting sponsors.

If you haven’t signed up for the Plunge, and would like to, click this link or if you’d like to leave the “freezing” to me, please support here. (Team members wanted! Join me here.)

There is no cost for plunging but Plungers are asked to fundraise a minimum of $100. Plungers create their own personal Plunge webpage so friends, family and co-workers can donate online. It’s quick, easy and secure.

Spectators are welcome to join in, cheer on, and join the party. Only the wave pool will be chilled down, the rest of the rides are heated. Come for the Plunge, then enjoy Aquatica all day!

If you don’t want to Plunge, but still participate, you can become a Virtual Plunger.  Raise pledges and receive incentives just like a regular Plunger, but without going into the chilly water.

Plungers who raise the minimum of $100 in donations, automatically get entry into Aquatica, the official Polar Plunge® T-shirt, two spectator passes and bragging rights over everyone who just couldn’t bear it!

Please join me in supporting Special Olympics Florida.

Running into cold water Polar Plunge AquaticaIt’s not quite going to be freezing here in Florida, February 2, but it’ll be as close as we get here in the sunshine state. On that date, hundreds of “plungers” will hit the beach, um, er, POOL, at SeaWorld Aquatica to raise money and awareness for Florida Special Olympics.

Last year, 700 plungers participated in the 3rd Annual Polar Plunge to raise $180,000. This year there will be a record number of participants (over 1,000 and counting!), with donations on track to meet the $200,000 goal!

Your donations make it possible for Florida Special Olympics to provide new sport opportunities for athletes such as flag football or to introduce children ages 2 -7 to Special Olympics Florida through the recent initiative “Young Athletes.”

It was a lot of fun “freezin'” last year! My Twitter and FaceBook followers, family, and friends blew me away with their generosity. This year I’m happy to have a team, The Central Florida Fun Bloggers, i.e. Fun-“e”-Bees. (Hint, hint: I could use some more team members!) We’ll be dressed in goofy bee get-ups while going in the water, although nowhere near as cold as even these kids:

SeaWorld Mommy in the cold waterWith less than a week away, here’s how you can help:

    • Donate to my page (click here)
    • Donate to one of my team-mates’ pages (click here for Iris Lee, click here for Brian of Central Florida Top 5 fame, click here for Rachel Yates)
    • Become a plunger (on my team? *bats eyes*). It is $100 to plunge which gets you and two spectators in for the day (which is much less than the cost for 3 tickets) AND you get to stay and play the rest of the day!
    • Become a team member! (follow the instructions here and then “click Join a Team” to find Central Florida Fun Bloggers).
